Background and Objectives: locus of control is the degree to which people believe that they have control over the outcome of events in their lives, as opposed to external forces beyond their control This study aimed to compare cognitive flexibility, metacognition and impulsivity in adolescents with internal locus of control and external locus of control.
Materials and Methods: This is a case-control study. In this regard, 25 high school students with internal locus of control and 25 high school students with external locus of control were chosen by Rotter's locus of control scale, and then participants were evaluated with Wisconsin Card Sorting Test(WCST), Adolescent Meta-cognition Questionnaire and Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11. Data were analyzed using Multivariate analysis of variance(MANOVA) via SPSS 18.
Results: The results showed that there are significant difference between subjects with internal locus of control and subjects with external locus of control in cognitive flexibility, metacognition and impulsivity(p<0.0001),
Conclusion: The results of this study indicated that subjects with external locus of control shows deficits in cognitive flexibility, metacognition and impulsivity.
