Background and purposeHildegard Peplau's interpersonal relationship theory remains one of the most influential frameworks in the nursing profession, emphasizing the therapeutic relationship between nurse and patient as the central focus of the healing process..Despite its conceptual sophistication and enduring relevance, several challenges prevent its full implementation in contemporary healthcare settings..This review examines these barriers while providing evidence-based strategies for effectively applying Peplau's theoretical framework in the modern nursing profession..
Method of workThis study aimed to review the literature on the challenges of applying Peplau's interpersonal relations theory in nursing and practical solutions for its use using a non-systematic narrative review method. Scientific sources from databasesPubMed,CINAHLandGoogle ScholarCollected.Keywords used include:""Peplau","Interpersonal Relations Theory","Therapeutic Nurse-Patient Relationship"and""Application of Nursing Theory"were.
FindingsToday, the application of Peplau's theory, based on the findings of numerous studies, faces challenges such as time constraints, focus on technology, communication skill problems, and cultural challenges. However, practical strategies such as the use of structured communication models, simulation training, creating cultural adaptation, and adapting the theory to digital environments can help nurses apply the theory more effectively in their practice.
ConclusionBy directly addressing the challenges, nurses can more successfully implement this fundamental theory to increase patient outcomes and professional satisfaction.
