Introduction: Nursing professionneeds nurses whoarecapable ofproviding effective carebased oncritical thinking. Teachingcritical thinking is the most importantattemptwhich should take place innursing education. Thisreview articlewill determinethe role ofeducational strategiesin thedevelopmingstudents' critical thinking. Materials and Methods: In present study, A through literature search was performed in the books and Medline, CINAHL, Google scholar, Sid, Magiran, Medlib and Iranmedex data bases between1995 and 2011. Full texts of 144 articles were found, of which 37 were related directly to the articles discussing training strategy based on critical thinking. Results: Choosing ateaching methodis important in forming a thinking process. Various studies have provided variety ofdifferent teaching strategies to promote critical thinking. This review showed that applying modern methods of teaching, especially problem based learning and concept mapping, are effective in developing critical thinking. Conclusion: According to the specific role of critical thinking in the process of learning, paying more attention to current curriculum and applying new approaches in medical universities seems necessary. Also, we should keep in mind that the combining different training methods is important ingrowing critical thinking.
