Introduction: Faculty members are considered key factors in universities and higher education institutions. Future developments of universities also depend on their competencies. The present study aims to assess the Professional Competence of faculty members of Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences.
Materials and Methods: The descriptive research was a cross-sectional survey. The statistical population of the study was 154 faculty members of Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences in 2025; Through Cochran's formula, 110 people were selected as a sample and investigated in a simple random manner. To collect data, a researcher-made questionnaire of 46 professional competence questions whose validity and reliability had been confirmed was used. SPSS20 software and descriptive and analytical statistics methods (t-test) were used for data analysis.
Results: The results showed that the professional competence of faculty members is at a favorable level (P < 0.05) and the components of professional competence of faculty members, including knowledge, skills, attitude, and characteristics, were at a favorable level (P < 0.05). The professional competence of faculty members does not significantly differ in terms of gender and faculty (P > 0.05); however, it shows a significant difference regarding educational level, service record, and Scientific rank (P < 0.05).
Conclusion: Considering that the professional competence of faculty members is at a satisfactory level, this should not prevent us from seeing weaknesses and problems, and we should not be satisfied with this level of competence. Therefore, it is suggested that the competence of faculty members be evaluated continuously and developmentally.
