Introduction: Evaluating students' practical skills in clinical practice is one of the most complex and difficult tasks in the field of medical education. Log Book is one of the methods of clinical evaluation in medical sciences and measuring the implementation of educational goals in designated fields. Therefore, this review study was conducted to Evaluating of clinical competencies of students using the logbook.
Methods: This study reviews articles published between 2008 and 2020 and by searching reputable databases such as PubmedSID, Iranmedex, Med lib, google Scholare, Magiran.Irandoc and use the keyword Clinical evaluation, student, clinical competency, clinical skills, Evaluation, student, log book, were performed. 10 articles out of 17 studies were reviewed
Results:. in general, four areas of quality, necessity, consequences and how to complete the logbook were examined. In addition, items such as the amount of instructor feedback to students and its effectiveness and theory evaluation at the end of the course were among the items studied in the studies.
Conclusion: Use of logbooks for clinical evaluation is associated with shortcomings that require careful planning and implementation. for its better efficiency, it needs to be reviewed periodically and its problems should be fixed in accordance with the needs of each field.
