Background and Objectives: Child abuse is one of the major health and social problems in all countries which is affected by factors including culture, society, family, and some characteristics of children. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of child abuse and some related demographic factors among elementary school students in Neyshabur.
Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in 2014. A total of 447 students were selected by multistage random sampling. Questionnaire was used for data collection. The first part consisted of demographic data, the second part included questions about corporal punishment for children, and the third part consisted of 20 questions related to behavioral problems of practical aggression, verbal aggression, loneliness and child cooperation at school. The data were collected and analyzed, using SPSS 16 software
Results: More than 70% of the subjects were Child abused. Child abused was also significantly related to the sex and age of the father. (P <0.05). There was a significant relationship between the mean score of behavioral problems and corporal punishment (p = 0.01). Also, a significant relationship was found between the areas of behavioral problems and corporal punishment (p = 0.01). The results of multivariate logistic regression showed that father age, child age and child gender were among the influential variables in corporal punishment. (P <0.05).
