Liver Echinococcus Granulosus Massive Cyst: A Case Report

Abstract

Background and Aims: Hydatid cyst is an infectious disease from Echinococcus granolosus larva in which the parasite ‎can invade different tissues such as liver, spleen, lung, brain and kidney and any other sites. ‎The adult form of these worms lives in intestine of dog, fox, wolf and alike. The parasite eggs ‎can contaminate water, food, fruit and vegetables. Also Human can infected via eating parasite ‎eggs in the contaminated water, food, fruit and vegetables‏.‏‎ The aim of this case reportly study ‎was increasing awareness of all people toward the hydatid cyst as an important health problem.‎
Materials and Methods: This case study was performed on a massive hydatid cyst, reported in a 26 year-old woman. ‎She referred to the clinic by fever, nausea, anorexia, lethargy and abdominal pain at the right ‎side of the abdomen. CT scan and Sonography revealed that a vast space of liver had been ‎occupied by the massive hydatid cyst in the right lobe of liver‏. ‏This cyst was massive and had ‎occupied large space of right lobe of liver.‎
Results: Cyst was removed by a surgery and patient was released from hospital in stable and healthy ‎position‏.‏
Conclusion: Studies showed that hydatid cyst is an important health problem in Khorasan provinces and ‎necessitates special preventing programs.
