Comparison of the integrated counseling (group and individual) and only group counseling with women on the quality gap in marriage counseling program: a clinical trial

Abstract

Background: : Recognizing the quality gap in health services, which means the gap between expectations and perceptions of clients, provides the basis for improving the quality of services and preserving community health by recognizing the status. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the group and integrated counseling women on the quality gap in marriage counseling.
Study method: In the years of 2015-16, 113 of the women attending premarital counseling unit of Mashhad health centers, were recruited and assigned into two groups receiving integrated and group counseling. Integrated group participated in two sessions with group counseling and one session individual counseling and in group counseling three sessions were group counseling, every sessions lasted two hours with one week intervals and received counseling on husband relations, sexual and reproductive health issues. The data collected using the SERVQUAL questionnaire consists of two parts Expectations (pre-service) and perception (after service) and were analyzed using spss 16, independent and paired t test and their Nonparametric tests equivalents.
Findings: The mean score of quality gap in recipients no significant difference between two groups (p=0/49), But consumers' perceptions of group (p=0/03) and integrated counseling (p=0/004) was significantly higher than the score of their expectations.
Conclusion: Although both groups perceptions of the quality of counseling was higher than expected, difference of the mean score of quality gap from the perspective of recipients two methods, wasnt significant. With regard to the facilities at the centers can choose one of two methods and implementation plan.
