The Relationship between Emotional Intelligence and Academic Achievement in Medical University Students: A Review Study

Abstract

Background and Aim: Academic achievement of students is one of the important indicators in evaluation of educational system. Emotional intelligence is one of the factors of success in educational, professional and social environments and it can predict the progress in different aspects of one''s life. This article aimed to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic achievement of students..
Methods: The present study is a narrative review. To find out the studies of SID with the keywords Student, Clinical Performance, Emotional Intelligence, Emotional Intelligence, Clinical Practice, Student, standardized at MESH, see the Google Scholar, Cochrane, Proquest, Magiran, Web databases. The 2009 to 2020 intervals were reviewed.
Results: Findings showed that emotional intelligence influences academic achievement, adaptation, success, intelligence development, self-management, feelings of others, and in general, perceptions of individuals'' emotions. Emotional intelligence levels affect problem solving performance and the higher one''s emotional intelligence, the greater the problem solving power. Problem solving ability has a great impact on the control of impulses, stress and stress of students.
Conclusion: : Given the importance of emotional intelligence on students ''academic achievement, it is suggested to enhance students'' emotional intelligence through its role-playing, creative and experimental scientific and innovative techniques in educational settings.
