Evaluating the Viewpoint of Midwifery Students in Sabzevar University of Medical Sciences and Sabzevar Midwiferies Among Giving Birth at Home in 2011

Abstract

Introduction: choosing the location of birth giving is an important issue in medical topics. Word health organization indicates that for most pregnant women home is the preferable place for birth giving. In this study the viewpoint of midwiferies and midwifery students among advantages and disadvantages of home birth, also their agreement or disagreement and the difficulties among this way of giving birth is being evaluated.
Material and methods: this descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted by Census questionnaire on 62 midwifery students and 50 midwives working at Sabzevar hospital and health centers in 2011.
Results: although the midwifery student’s viewpoint grade was greater than midwifes but the statistical different was not meaningful. There wasn’t also any meaningful relation between students study semester, age and marital status of midwifes and midwifery students, midwife’s level of education and years of service with their point of view. In comparison with midwifes who had only experienced C-section, meaninglessly, midwifes with experiences of natural childbirth got better viewpoint grades. Conclusion: in order to raise awareness level and make correction in viewpoints upon home birth, the motivation in awareness ought to be taught by educating plans, leading to improved performance. Educating the educated midwifes for home birth and also providing theoretical and practical lessons for undergraduate students in order to make them more familiar and bring them more provision and facilities is also recommended
