Abstract
Background: The importance of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is well established. When performed correctly, CPR can reduce mortality by up to 50%. This study aimed to compare the quality of chest compressions during conventional CPR and delayed-ventilation CPR among prehospital emergency medical service personnel.
Methods: This quasi-experimental crossover study was conducted among emergency medical technicians (EMTs) working in the 115 Emergency Medical Services system in Birjand, Iran, in 2024. Sixty participants were recruited through convenience sampling, followed by quota-based cluster allocation. Each participant performed CPR on a manikin using the conventional method, with performance assessed using the Q-CPR measurement device. Participants subsequently performed CPR using the delayed-ventilation method. The quality of performance under the conventional and delayed-ventilation conditions was compared and analyzed for each participant.
Results: The participants’ mean age was 32.60±6.9832.60±6.98 years. Of the participants, 24 (40%) held an associate degree and 36 (60%) held a bachelor’s degree.
