Abstract

Background and Aims: Obesity is one of the major health challenges in both industrialized and developing societies, playing a significant role in the emergence of non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. Physical activity is recognized as a key factor in the prevention and control of obesity. This study aimed to investigate the knowledge and attitudes of employees at the Deputy of Health of Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences regarding obesity and its relationship with physical activity.
Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, using the census method, 109 employees of the Deputy of Health completed a valid and reliable researcher-made questionnaire on Porsline. After completion, the data were analyzed using SPSS software at a significance level of 0.05.
Results: The results showed that 80.7% of participants had good knowledge about obesity, and 63.3% had a positive attitude toward physical activity. However, 69.7% of individuals had a low level of physical activity. A significant relationship was found between knowledge level and gender, language, workplace, and education. Additionally, a significant relationship was observed between attitude level and workplace, as well as between physical activity level and workplace and marital status.
Conclusion: Despite the relatively good knowledge and attitudes of the employees, their level of physical activity was low. This highlights the need for educational interventions and the provision of appropriate facilities to increase physical activity in the workplace and daily life. Improving working conditions and access to sports facilities can help change behaviors and reduce obesity among employees.
