Studying the knowledge and attitude of girl medical sciences ُ students and non-medical students towards natural childbirth and cesarean and their associate factors in Esfarayen city

Abstract

Background: Today, cesarean parturition is increasing in Iran while the side effects of it for mother and fetus are very high. The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge and attitudes of female medical and non-medical students towards natural childbirth and cesarean section in Esfarayen.
Methods: In this descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study, community of study were female students of medical, technical-engineering and Payame Noor universities. The sample size was 369 that 123 persons from each university were selected by stratified sampling method. The validity and reliability of research inventory were confirmed. Questionnaires were completed self-reported. The obtained results were statistically analyzed using SPSS24 software and statistical tests such as independent t- test and ANOVA were used to determine the relationship between variables.
Results: 31.3% of the participants were medical sciences students. 81.3% of participants were between 18 and 25 years old and most of them were public health student (17.7%) and the lowest number of participants were occupational health students (1.1%). 67.4% of participants were single. Analytical results showed that there is a significant relationship between knowledge and university (p<0.001) and the average length of being student with students' knowledge(p=0.04) and attitude (p=0.008).
Conclusion: According to the results, medical students were more aware about natural childbirth than non-medical students. Also, third year students were more aware than other students. The attitude of fifth year students was also higher than other students. Creating programs to increase students 'awareness can be effective in increasing students' awareness and strengthening their positive attitude.
