An Investigation into the Media Role in Confrontation with the COVID-19 Prevention and environmental health

Abstract

Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2, the new Corona with the previous name SARS-CoV-2, is positive-sense single-stranded RNA virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). There is a tough battle between genetic viral intelligence and the human intelligence. To win this war, in addition to adequate knowledge of this invasive and contagious virus, making adequate decisions, proper and timely control by the health systems of the countries and, most importantly, spreading awareness and educating the people about this unknown virus are essential. Concerning the health crisis management, this pandemic has highlighted the difficulties of taking into account environmental health perspectives in policies and control measures which have mostly focused on curbing the infectious outbreak. Now the question is whether our mass media have been able to play a positive role in creating healthy behaviors and teaching prevention strategies in connection with Covid-19 disease? This paper focuses on examining and explaining the different roles mass media are playing regarding Covid-19 pandemic. In today's world, the role of media, especially radio and television in changing or continuation of the attitudes and creating desirable behaviors is something agreed by the social science scientists and theorists. Most countries apply every effort to address all of the social harms and communicable diseases through socio-cultural planning; radio and television are suitable tools to achieve educational, health, social and cultural programs. Research shows that individuals exhibit a variety of emotional, cognitive and behavioral responses to the health and security threatening incidents.
