Prevalence of medication errors in nursing and emergency medical students of Qaen School of Nursing and Midwifery

Abstract

Background and Aims
Medical errors are one of the major challenges threatening the health system in all countries. One of the most common known medical errors is medication errors. Medication errors pose a serious threat to patients' safety and in some cases can lead to patient death. Therefore, this study was conducted to investigate the factors affecting medication errors in nursing students and medical emergencies of Ghaen School of Nursing and Midwifery.
Materials and Method
In the present study, 47 (55.3%) were male and 71 (83.5%) were nursing students. 78.8% of students witnessed other students' medication errors. Most of the drug errors were in the internal department (35.5%) and among the drug injection methods, the most errors were related to intravenous injection (62.4%) and the most drug errors were drug administration methods (injectable and non-injectable) (78.8%).
Results

Conclusion
The results of the study showed that the rate of medication errors among nursing students and medical emergencies is high. Cured patients.
