Investigating Health-Related Quality Of Life in indigenous people living in Yazd City

Abstract

Background & Aim: with the increase of life expectancy and life time, quality of life is an important issue. the evaluation of quality of life in people at different situations and conditions are necessary for health system policies. this present study wase investigated the quality of general life in people living in Yazd and related demographic factors.
Materials & Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 300 natives over 18 years age in Yazd were included by cluster sampling. Data were collected with two-part questionnaire including demographic information and SF-36 quality of life questionnaire. Data were analyzed using SPSS16 software and independent t-test, one-way ANOVA and Scheffe post hoc test.
Results: The quality of life score of individuals in the two dimensions of physical and mental health respectively was 76.92 ± 16.72 and 70.18 ± 20.19. There was a significant relationship between physical health and marital status, education, BMI, and number of children. There was also a significant relationship between gender and mental health dimension (p <0.05).
Conclusion: The results of this study show that the average scores obtained by the general public of Yazd in the two general dimensions of mental health and physical health is at a moderate to high level. However, providing opportunities for participation and social support in order to improve their quality of life seems useful. This can be useful for policy makers and health professionals in designing and implementing interventions to promote health related quality of life.
