The Relationship between Sexual Function and Mental Health in Women with Type 2 Diabetes in Tabriz

Abstract

Background and Aims: Type 2 diabetes is a chronic disease that has serious metabolic complications. Sexual disorders are one of the chronic complications of diabetes that can affect mental health. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between sexual function and mental health in women with type 2 diabetes in Tabriz..
Materials and Method: This study was a correlational study. The study population consisted of all female patients with type 2 diabetes. Sample size in the study population was 300 people selected by cluster sampling method. Research instruments were General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28) and Rosen et al. Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 18 and descriptive statistics including descriptive and inferential statistics and Pearson correlation test.
Results: According to the results of the research, there is a negative and significant correlation between sexual function and all mental health variables. That is, the decline in sexual function is associated with an increase in mental health disorders. (P. <0.05).
Conclusion: Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects sexual function and mental health of patients. Therefore, it is advisable to pay attention to the sexual function of patients' mental health in treatment programs of diabetes.
