Evaluation of Noise level in the Amol City Woodcrafts

Abstract

Background: Noise pollution is a common occupational hazard in vast variety of workplaces especially in small shops. Hence this study was conducted with the aim of noise pollution evaluation in the Amol city woodcrafts.
Methods: In this descriptive-analytical study, 80 woodcrafts shops were assessed. Equivalent sound pressure level (Leq) was measured in saw ON and OFF mode in 5 stations around noise source at each shop by using of sound level meter TES-1358 model. Data were analyzed with SPSS 20.0 utilizing the descriptive statistics, T-test and linear regression test.
Results: Sound pressure level in carpentry and MDF manufacturing shops in ON mode was 97.9±5 and 95.2±6.2 dB respectively. In OFF mode these values were 88.6±4.5 and 83.5±5.3 dB respectively. Linear regression correlation coefficient for both ON and OFF mood was 0.923 for carpentry and 0.948 for MDF manufacturing shops. The differences between SPL in both shops with standard limit (85dB) was significant (p<0.01).
Conclusion: All woodcrafts were in very unhealthy condition which implementing of immediately interventions are required. Reducing the work time, utilizing of sound absorbers in shop roof and walls and personal protective equipment suggested for improvement of present conditions.
