Protocols and Dissection method of soft tissue in Lymnaeid snails; Intermediate host of some Native Iranian Parasitic

Abstract

Introduction: Lymnaeidae is important and large group fresh water snails. These snails are intermediate host of Fasciolidae parasite and may consider as most important snail in Iran, after elimination of Schistosomiasis. Although these snails are focused for epidemiologic and parasitologic studies, there is not any available protocol in native language for dissecting soft tissue of Lymnaeid snails. This study was conducted, for presenting an available and documentary protocol.
Material and Methods: Lymnaea gedrosiana (Radix auricularia) were collected from Mazanadaran province rice fields and water pools in Tehran University. Scattered protocol from European training centers and local universities were gathered together. Killing and dissecting was done based on these protocols and experiences of domestic professors.
Results: A conclusive protocol with images was generated in Persian language for dissecting Lymnaeid snails.
Conclusion: Although there are many scattered protocol for dissecting soft tissue of Lymnaeid snails around the world, these papers are not easily available for student of Bio-Medicine in Iran, this study gathered the available protocols and fill out some defects between these protocols by many years of experienced professors and were presented in Persian language to be used by young students.
