Investigation of Environmental Health and Safety Situations in Elementary and Junior High Schools of Izeh, 2017

Abstract

Background and Aims: School is the most appropriate place for training children, teenagers and juniors.It plays an important role in preparing  a safe and joyful life. Regarding the importance of school environmental health condition in promoting the health level in society, this research aimed to study the hygienic conditions in Izeh elementary and junior high schools.
Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive study in which 80 (40 urban and 40 rural) governmental schools were sampled using census method. The sampling tool was questionnaire filled through interviewing the school principals and direct observation. Collected information was analyzed using Excell and spss soft wares.
Results: The results of this search showed that %100 of urban and %82/5  of rural schools had healthy potable water. Only in %57/5 urban schools and %22/5 of rural schools, lavatory and drinking places were separate and Chi-Square statistical test showed that area type of school (urban or rural) didn't Influence on standards such as classroom walls (p= 0/070), Windows equipped with screens (p= 0/430), but affected on standards of restrooms (p=0/025), Area school (p=0/000).
Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, the environmental health and safety of elementary and junior high schools in Izeh city is moderate. Therefore, it is suggested that authorities work on improvement of the environment health and safety of the schools in the city to prevent the illness and incidents for the students.
