Background and Purpose:
Advances require scientific development which in turn needs planning in various fields. The first step toward such planning is the knowledge of the current status. To plan on the role of university students in knowledge production we most be aware of their knowledge and attitudes toward research principles. Study of the research status at university helps us approach the issue to understand the speed, process, development and the gap between the current and ideal states. Materials and procedure:
This cross- sectional descriptive analytical study was conducted on the whole population of students at Sabzevar school of medical science. A questionnaire including demographic information and questions on knowledge attitude and performance of research, was verified for validity and approved of its reliability through cronbach alpha. Obtained date were analyzed in spas; means and frequencies were calculated; t--test, pearson correlation coefficient and chi-square were utilized. Results:
It was revealed that 69 .3% were of positive attitudes towards research concept. while 55.6% were of low knowledge of research mean knowledge scores were higher in females than in males;
while, males at etudes were more positively expressed. Students of environmental health had the highest knowledge while those of anesthesiology ranked the lowest. Students having cooperated in research, member of student research center. day student, students having attended conferences and congresses and students in their Semester had the highest knowledge. Also, those having attended research workshops and those with self- study on research issues all had higher knowledge and more positive attitudes toward research
