With respect to the importance of general health and the role of religious issues including prayers, the present study was conducted to investigate the relationship between prayers and educational status in the students at the Islamic Azad University of Sabzevar, Iran.
Methods and Materials:
This descriptive analytical study was conducted on the students at the Islamic Azad University of Sabzevar, Iran, who studies at the summer term in 2008. The data on religious beliefs was collected by the Temple Questionnaire with an established reliability and validity. The obtained data were analyzed in SPSS using chi-square, correlation coefficient and independent t-test. Results:
The findings revealed a significant difference in the average of male and female students in each of the three terms investigated (term 1 p=0.001, term 2 p0.002, term 3 p=0.02). In fact, Male students’ mean was lower than that of males. Also, a significant correlation coefficient was observed between prayers and students’ average (r=o.167). The correlation between prayers and the average of terms 1, 2, and 3 was not significant. However, a significant relationship was observed between non-dormitory residence and students’ average (p=0.047).
Conclusion:
Generally salat has been more effective on the education progress than prayers. Variables of gender, dorm residence and salat score have had the highest effect on the students’ average during the three terms. Other variables such as age, term, area of residence, prayers etc. have had no effect on the students’ educational progress.
